The weather here is finally starting to pick up for good. We've had a week straight of sunny, 70 degree weather. Although, it makes walking to work a little harder, because by the time I get there I'm all sweaty. Anyway, the walk to work is finally fully green. The grass alongside the river will eventually grow to be over my head.
On Friday after work some of us went out for barbeque.
On Saturday after work Cecily and I went to Insadong to get some presents. It was so crowded! We hit up every street food stand on the street. We started with some dumplings, then had little red bean filled pastries, then some kebabs, and finally some hotdogs. There was this weird machine that was spewing out long, curly strands of some kind of corn snack. We didn't buy one, but when we were at the kebab truck, this young Korean couple out of nowhere just asked us if we would like to try some, and she ended up breaking off half of hers and giving it to us. It was so nice of her! It tasted exactly like Corn Pops.
I think Peter's going through another mid life crisis, because while I was in Insadong he asked me if I wanted to go check out a dog with him that he wanted to buy. He already checked out a bulldog earlier in the week, but he was keeping his options open. I asked him what kind of dog this one was and he said a German Shorthaired Pointer! I told him that it was going to be very wild and crazy and need a ton of exercise, and probably shouldn't be living in a tiny apartment, but he wanted to check it out for himself. We made the hour and a half journey to some far off suburb north of Seoul to go check this dog out. As soon as we walked in, it started pissing all over the floor! Then it proceeded to run around in circles around the house for a half hour straight. I was having deja vu of our days with Scout. Needless to say, he didn't buy the dog.
On Sunday a few of us went to the river to have some beers and enjoy the afternoon.
These little kids were running around the whole time and kept coming to us and saying Hello. The little girl in the pink was adorable, but she wouldn't stop long enough to get a decent picture.
This is what the walk to work now looks like, from the walking paths above the creek.
This is our hangout spot before work, where we get some coffees and chill out for about a half hour before we have to get down to business.
I found this sign on the outside of a coffee shop on our way to work. I guess you can't bring in ants or flies, but a live chicken is ok.
The mountains outside my window are finally full of green.
Saturday is "Children's Day", so the Elementary School had some games and activities for the students. The room was a zoo. Kids were screaming their heads off, jumping around, and standing on the tables and chairs. God bless the people who have to do Elementary School. I could only last ten minutes in the room before I had to leave.
Emily got into it though. He she is sporting her bunny ears. She was banging on the tables and chanting peoples names that were playing the games. She's partly to blame for all the screaming.
This week at cooking we made Jjim Dalk. It is pretty much like Korean chicken noodle soup.
The finished product! Minnie made this for us one time, and Minnies was infinitely better, but that didn't stop me and Cecily from eating all of this, plus some of our neighbors.
This is an odd week at school because some of the kids are still testing. Cecily didn't have to be at work until 7, so we went to scout out a place to lay on a blanket and catch up on some leisure reading. The usual spot I go to is now overrun with bulldozers to put up a Samsung Medical Center, so we had to venture out to a new place.
Alongside the hills were little independent looking farms with old men and women planting and caring for the gardens. It was crazy to see some gardens and also see the city in the same setting.
I told the old man last week that I couldn't meet up this week, but he didn't get the picture. He called me when I was at cooking but I didn't answer. He then proceeded to call me 9 more times over a 4 hour period. I don't know how he's this head over heels just after one date..
