On Satuday, Cecily, Tyler, Greg and I went to the Intercontinental Hotel for their 6-9 happy hour wine and appetizer buffet. The price was $35, but the food was good and the wine flowed. They were serving chicken wings, beef stew, blood sausages, potato wedges, and a whole assortment of fruits, veggies, cheeses, and crackers. The cheese and the food were delicious, but the wine wasn't that great. As the night came to a close and they started taking away whatever wine bottles were left, Cecily took it upon herself to snag a full bottle of champagne and hide it under our table. I made Cecily and Tyler pose so I could get a glamour shot of the girl in the background who passed out at the table with her boyfriend.
It was a classy event, so I classed it up a bit. Me in the midst of a very intellectual conversation.
On Sunday, Suzie, Minnie, Ben, Pete, and I were supposed to escape the city for a few, but felt unmotivated when we woke up, so we went for a stroll at Olympic Stadium. It was such a great day to be out and about.
The average life of a dumb phone user in the middle of a bunch of smart phone users. This happens quite a lot. There are lulls in the conversation where everyone just pulls out their iphone and reads news, plays games, or gets on facebook.
However, some of us don't have that option, so we sit there and wait for everyone to be finished.
After the coffee shop, Suzie and Minnie went to Suzies to take a nap. Ben, Peter and I snuck around the corner to a German brewery for a few beers. Ben and Peter downloaded the new pictionary-ish app for their iphones so mostly just played each other.
After the beer we went back to Peter's place and he cooked us some dinner. We had chorizo pasta, shrimp in garlic and butter, and salad. I only had shrimp one time, and it was when I was on vacation in Ocean City with the Vucelich's when I was a young teen and Uncle Sam made some with the pasta. I didn't like it then so I haven't tried it since. However, I felt like I needed to test it out again, and I loved it! It didn't taste oceany at all and being drowned in butter and garlic doesn't hurt.
Yet another point in the night where everyone got on their Iphones and I was left to fend for myself.
One of my students went to the comic book convention this weekend (I'm pissed I missed it, I didn't know about it or I would have been there). She's an avid Naruto fan and knows I love it too, so she bought me this bookmark!
Another of my students drew this picture vv for the student who gave me the Naruto bookmark ^^ but she didn't want it and threw it away! So I told the student vv that I'd keep it and tape it above my desk at work with all my other artwork. The letters in the top right are how you spell my name in Korean. I'm not entirely sure who the drawing is of, and neither is the student. She said she just googled "cute anime character" and drew the one she liked the best.
Today was cooking class. We made seafood pancakes. I hate seafood, but since I had a new revelation about the shrimp I decided to give it a shot. There shrimp, squid tentacles, squid body, and squid head!
I made Cecily pick all the tentacles off and cut up the squid, I'm not one for handling dead animals, which is why when I make food for myself there's never any meat in it. Once again, I was in charge of stirring all the batter and veggies and squid that Cecily cut in the bowl. She's going to make a great housewife some day.
Our lovely chef and the coordinator / translator. I think Cecily and my pancakes were the best, because the chef tasted everyones then sat down by us and ate our pancakes with us.
Emily and her friend from university who is working in Hong Kong were our rivals in the kitchen. Nobody ate theirs.
Everyone was doing the flippy thing in the frying pan to flip the pan. I nailed it, much to Cecily's surprise. Here was her attempt. You can see that half the pancake landed on the floor.
The finished product! Four pancakes and a plate of food. After cooking class every day I always go and buy the ingredients of what we made. I bought the flour for making these pancakes and can't wait to make some myself.
Neither of us are really keen on taking smiling pictures and are much more into candid photos. The red tea is called "five taste tea" because it covers different tastes: sweet, spicy, bitter, sour, and salty.
Once again we are the first (and only) group to finish everything in front of us. We even started stealing our neighbors fruit and pancakes.
The stream is starting to get greener! And its finally getting warmer out.
At sewing last week I made Drew some pants. They are so adorable I can't wait to send them to her, but they will be too big for her right now. Oh well, she'll grow into them eventually. Tomorrow I'm making her a top to go with them.
